Do you want to make changing your life a priority but you aren’t sure where to start?
This the hard part and so many of us get caught up because we are too afraid to ask for help.
Instead here a few helpful ways to help you get started:
Make a Plan. The best way to make a plan is to have a written plan. (It is like a goal. It is only a goal, if it is not written down). Literally, take out your calendar, figure out the best time for you to exercise, and plug it in so it is on repeat every single day!
Rise & Shine. This may seem like a chore because sometimes you just want to stay snuggled up in your cozy bed, however, if you exercise before the sun comes up, it is proven that you will feel more energetic throughout the rest of the day.
Working out in the morning has its many benefits:
- Sets a Healthy Tone for the entire day: endorphins kick in, thus, boosting your energy level and mood.
- Boosts your metabolism: this allows you to burn more calories throughout the day (EPOC, Energy Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption).
- It allows you to stay focused: when no one is calling, e-mailing, or texting you.
- More time for other priorities: 🙂
Limit the Screen. Don’t spend time flipping through the channels. This is just wasting time and limiting your time to staying active. Trade in just 30 minutes of tube and binge watching to committing to exercise.
Think Positive. Instead of saying, “I’m too busy to workout”, change it up to something more empowering, such as “I choose to make myself a priority.” Or “I am willing to do something active today”. Love yourself. Choose yourself.
Socialize on the Move. If a friend asks you to grab a bite or to get a drink, flip it. Suggest an activity. Catch up on a walk, a bike ride, or an indoor activity, such as ice-skating or rock climbing. Maybe something neither of you have ever done before. Think about it wouldn’t you rather engage in conversation over something fun and exciting that can create a lasting memory? This could even lead to a new hobby you both might enjoy doing together. Doesn’t that sound so much more appealing than just “grabbing a bite”?
Include the Family. Find activities to do with your family, such as family hikes, soccer games, after-dinner walks, bike rides, family trips to the gym, swimming.
Say “No” To Snooze. The more time you hit snooze, the more time you are wasting. If you want something, then you are going to have to step up your game and take control. Get out of Bed!
Master the Micro-Workout. There are so many easy-to-do workouts that don’t take up much time at all. Some, can even be done in 5 minute workouts . And, these can even be performed right from your own home. Or, take a brisk 15-minute walk during your lunch break. This gives you the change to stretch your legs, get some exercise, and clears your head from any stress
Take the Stairs. Don’t always take the easy way up or down.
“Buddy-Up”. Find a partner to help keep you accountable, motivated, and on track. Perhaps this is friend, a loved one, a training group, an exercise class, a personal trainer.
Spend the Money. Sometimes, if we invest in something it works out to our greatest benefit. “You have to spend money, to make it”, right? Well, in retrospect, sometimes, you have to spend money, to get see results! If you know you made an investment, then why waste it. Invest in an activity that you will enjoy and truly love (reminder: most gyms and/or studios always give a free class to see if it is the right fit for you).
Then, at the end of the day….
ON TOP OF THE WORLD.
